Godha

2017, Malayalam, YouTube Rental, 7.3/10 IMBD, Directed by Basil Joseph

Cute story made on wrestling backdrop, with some ‘Adipoli’ stunt and comedy.

Wrestling is his passion and he treats it with respect- Renji Panicker playing the role of captain of the association. However his son Tovino Thomas is fond of playing cricket with his friends.

The fued between the young cricket team and the wresting olddies, fighting over the ground which has sentimental value for the olddies, is real fun to watch.

The female lead played by the bold and beautiful Wamiqa Gabbi, who is a wrestler herself having difficulty competing, as her brother is against it.

There is a lag in the first half after Tovino is sent to Punjab for his higher education and meets with Wamiqa. But when she comes to Kerala, and tovino’s dad teaches her wrestling, the movie is both hilarious and ambitions as well.

The hungama that the small village people create over a Punjab ‘pen kutty’ practising wrestling, is out of the world funny. Especially when the cricketers slowly drifts to wrestling, Aju Varghese & Co, bring the roof down in laughter.

Tovino fits in to the role beautifully and when he is kindled to pursue wrestling again, it was nice and touchy, and the director made sure he gave couple of adipoli sequences with Tovino tossing up guys in his classic wrestling moves.

He’s is a ‘Muranpaattu Moottai’, as vairamuthu would call it, in his lyrics in Shivaji tamil movie. He looks like a hit man with huge biceps when his shirt comes off and the glare in serious scenes are mind blowing. In a comedy scene He turns to this animated character, constantly reminding me of Tom Jerry characters where his body language is like a toddler.

Tovino’s mom, played by T. Parvathi, she kept reminding Saranya ponvannan of tamil industry. Absolute treat to watch her have the war of words with her husband.

Movie ends very professionally and thats the success of the director not to bring the love quotient in to the climax. He leaves it all to our imagination.

Good watch 👍
