2019, Tamil, Sun Nxt, 6.9/10 IMDB, Directed by Prabhu
Petit yet noisy kinda atom bomb, saved by the rib cracking humorous walk down the Memory Lane of TN polity and it’s drama in recent years.
Movie opens with the credit-
‘Arasiyalil Pizhaithorkku Aram kootraagum’ -Pulamai Pitthan. You are preped for the plot on which the movie is about to revolve..
The very purpose of the movie, to create awareness on the plight of state polity that we were forced to put up with in recent years, was achieved through Freedom of Speech as the censor board certified the release of the movie in the first place.
Pretty bold to start of the movie with an agitation against ‘Benami Rule’. And the very next scene with him praying to photos of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi kind with a three time promise on the Holy ash..
RJ Balaji has fairly pulled off his Hero debut with the help of his freinds and team. His contribution in screen play is evident as it is his monotone kinda dialogue delivery that is receiving immense accolade in the theater.
The screenplay is jam packed with contents. Looks like the team didn’t want to miss out on addressing any political issues that we were debating in our living rooms off late. Occasionally it does backfire making the storyline haphazard. Editing to be blamed partially.
But when you are entertained thoroughly with our political dumb scenarios one after another, from thermocol sheets floated on rivers to 5Lane roads to IPL boycott, you tend to anticipate what comes next and in fact end up quizzing each other if they identified the real life political inccident that has been mocked in every dialogue and scene.
In the second half, one tends to go over broad and start decoding untold stories and get confused. The lag and violations in the later part of the movie is some how justified as the story take a turn towards ‘the moral of the story’ kinda zone.
Best actor award goes to Mr. Nanjil Sampath, the most eloquent personality, so called politician, known for jumping camps. He plays the father of the hero and the conversations between them are hilarious as RJ Balaji cleverly portrays his true anguish as counter dialogues. Personally I think we have a great actor to play villain/father roles in Tamil cinema as the actors like Prakashraj have turned to politics.
Priya Anand does a decent job as her character seems pivotal and she fits the bill. Time to change her makeup artist though, as she look more plastic with the funny hairdos and extensions.
There’s nothing special about the music and cinematography. There is no stunt sequence whatsoever. Yet the movie had made a mark and all credit to RJ Balaji, his team, director SR Prabhu and the production house for a reasonable budget to backup the screenplay or else the movie would have fallen flat like NOTA.
Overall enjoyed the light-hearted first half with a youngster beside me laughing as much as I did, giving me a sigh of relief that I am not alone..
Bravo team.. A discussion on post-election part2 I heard.. Would love to watch it as well..
