2019, Malayalam, YouTube, 7.5/10 IMDB, Directed by Arun Bose
The movie opens to a suspicious death of the hero Tovino who plays this sweet artist Luca and few frames later the death of the female lead Niharika played by the beautiful Ahaana krishna . Haven’t seen any movie with such an opening scene, that I remember of. It’s a slow movie but loaded with heaps of emotions and artistic feel good factors that if you are in the right mood for it, you will enjoy the movie making.
The investigating officer is played by Nithin George. His personal story takes the main stage for the first half hour or so. He is in the process of filing a divorce as he couldn’t forget his past love.
The main story opens at its own pace from the diary which they find in Luca’s house. The diary is of Niharika’s and we get to see this short and cute love story through the visuals of the police officer’s imagination.
There is GVM touch to the movie but the story is well shaped than his style and has some true essence of life in it. It’s all not plastic as in most of GVM’s flicks. It’s aesthetic and got more depth to it.
The brief scene that Thalaivasal Vijay plays the senior officer to Nithin, on whose advice he would have gotten married, stays close to your heart for a while. The relationship between the superior and colleagues has a soul to it. The pouring rain through out the investigation, is a character in itself.
Tovino’s life style fascinates you and the reason for his death, it doesn’t bother you in anyway. Don’t know if that’s what the director intended but since you know the character is dead in the opening scene, you kinda feel content that he lived happily with a sweet relationship that blossomed in the last few months.
The chemistry, physics and biology, all works between the lead pair too well and is super cute to watch it on-screen. Also you feel that the maker’s huge inspiration is from Mani Rathnam’s work.
Yes, Ahaana’s eyes speaks for her. The eyes emotes before she does and as Luca says the words that there is a sorrow in her eyes you readily realise it.
A kudos to the art team, they have exhibited to the fullest, all the ‘Do it yourself’ videos that you often watch on home improvement. It created the right mood for the movie.
The music of Sooraj S Kurup, lingers in your ears long after you have turned the movie off.
A ‘well done’ pat to the director Arun Bose and his team, except they should have tweaked in editing a bit more scenes, so that the length of the movie wouldn’t have been an issue.
Good watch. Must watch if you are a Tovino fan😅
