Namma Veettu Pillai

2019, Tamil, Sun Nxt, 6/10 IMDB, Directed by Pandiraj

Yet another star studded drama, reiterating theories of family system and it’s humdrum, saved by its casting characterizations and naive honest film making.

Pandiyaraj and Sivakarthikeyan teaming up with veterans like Director Barathiraja, Archana and the talented lots like Asiwarya Rajesh, Soori, Samudrakani, Yogi Babu, Natraj along with an array of actors that you loose count of. Casting is the strength of the movie just like Pandiayaraj’s last outing with ‘Kadai kutty singam’ which did phenomenally at the box office.

First half whiles away with the introduction of the huge family, their mannerisms, and an intro for the Paasa Malars of the movie. Music Director D.Imaan scores with a retro mix and thanks to Sun pictures for marketing the song and making it super hit even before the release of the movie.

Sivakarthikeyan has been ripped off all his mass appeal quotient and the director made sure his character is a grounded one so he could justify the title of the movie.

His combo scene with Soori and his son does tickle and makes you laugh eventhough it doesn’t make roll with laughter.

The female lead Anu Immanuel, looses to Asiwarya Rajesh’s versatile performance who is a natural.

Nutty alias cinematographer Natraj had few scopes for exhibiting his talent but there seems to be a confusion in the characterization whiles pulls him down.

Director Bharathiraja has a meaty role and he pulls if off amazingly making us long for more such roles for the veteran director in future. The way he throws punchline advices and the way he emotes when his dignity is questioned were remarkable.

The thought of Samudrakani in a flashback tiers you but when it does actually happen, it was unexpectedly pleasant.

Second half slags badly after Natraj marries Asiwarya Rajesh and the drama prolongs like Hanuman tail with an over dose of feet falling dramas.

Kudos to the team as they immensely succeeded in their only motive which was to bring family mass to the theater.

Families big and small are thronging in large numbers with their toddlers and tiny tots.

Not a bad watch.
