2018, Tamil, Disney Hotstar, 4.4/10 IMBD, Directed by Ponram
Seemaraja, 3rd in a row blockbuster combo of Ponram directorial, RD Raja production, Imman musical with Sivakarthikeyan and soori.
A mass entertainer with subtle comedy and a stunning reel of period flashback..
A potpourri of –
*Thalaivar’s Muthu style opening in a chariot, a thalaivar style walk, with an opening dialogue, that translates, “Be whoever you want to be, but don’t get close to me”
*MGR’s Anbe Va, rajavin paarvaiyil lyrics
*Ilaya Thalpathi’s Pokkiri style thaara thapatai song
*Thala Ajith’s vivegam style dialogue
*Dhanush’s Maari style dove episode
*Madhavan’s Run movie like song
*A home-made Bhahubali style flash back
*Ram charan’s Mahadeera like mugal emperor villian, here its Allaudin Khalji
Shivakarthikeyan has arrived and is here to stay in the hearts of the masses for few decades to come.
What Rajni was for me, what Vijay was for my daughter till her age 10, Shiva is inevitably for our little darlings mass.
Let me jump to the second half period portion.. It was a brief flash back but was taken back with the smart VFX which reminds you of the recent Bhahubali but a desi Tamil Raja’s version in such low cost yet flawless making. Kudos to the team.
Samantha fares well in her scopeful role that could have been thought even more deligently to help her win more hearts. Her love with Shiva doesn’t rub on you. A pat for silambattam sequences and her inspirational toned body.
Simran, I felt sorry for this dazzling heartthrob for being used in such a mundane chracterless role. She could have choosen a better come-back launch vehicle like the sophisticated roles of Nadhiya’s in S/O Mahalakshmi or Thaamirabarani. The costume was a sheer shame for the style icon Simran though it might justify her role. I was disappointed why she even choose to play this role.
Soori, Napoleon shine through. Cameo by Keerthi Suresh was worthy.
The never seen before coronation ritual of a Tamil posthumous King, was stupendous. Goosebumps when the crown sits on the tummy of the mom carrying the unborn heir.
Shiva, carries the flash back with adequate carisma to convince you of a handsome young Raja.. Costumes especially the sherwanis show another perspective of the actor.
Imman’s music is routine yet the crowd go bonkers because of the combo’s previous super hits.
If you like Siva you will like him more, if you don’t like him you will fall for him. His fast paced stardom reaches another pinnacle making one happily jealous of his success.
A clean family entertainer. A loitering story in the second half does bore you but the movie is saved by Shiva and the period portion.
The research behind the cast iron boomerang and the zamindhari family, a proposed solution to the farmers land acquisition for windmill, address of farmer issues, subtle political satire- watchout for this smart kid who is intelligently making his moves towards the helm.
Fantastic review
