2019, Tamil, Zee5, 5.2/10 IMDB, Directed by Arun Kumar
Fatiguing narrative sadly leaves an impression less aftermath, despite the interesting casting of real life father-son combo.
VJS and his son Surya directed by Su.Arunkumar of Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Sethupathi fame, with Anjali as the female lead, does evoke you to expect an interesting tale.
Appreciate the director for venturing out a different genre in all his 3 films and this one is set in the underworld trafficking mafia of Indonesia. A petite thief duo from southern Tamilnadu brings them down, in an ill constructed screenplay.
A less chubby VJS and a way too chubby son Surya share some great on-screen moments, even though they are just petty crime partners, they share a father-son chemistry and surya even calls him mostly ‘PA’.
The first few scenes where the director does scores with his charming love angle for the partially hearing impaired VJS and loud pahrynxed anjali (reminds of Ram Charan and Samantha block buster Rangasthalam). Somehow with his real life son playing VJS’s partner in crime, tagging along 24×7, one is unable to cherish the depth of romance and left to cringe in the seat.
The mundane slave saga of rubber estates was handled better than expected but when the fair skinned women trafficked for their skin to western needs of cosmetic surgery side of story is revealed, the story completely sags..
VJS strives to score in many sequence, but the scene lack layers that it doesn’t reciprocate his effort. Surya Vijaysethupathi is a natural. In fact he mimics his dad’s laid back body language and he performs effortlessly.
The lengthy climax of VJS saving the girls, reminds you of Gagini’s Asin. The story is Atleast 2 decades old and the treatment is not gripping enough to make you like it.
Few good moments here and there doesn’t make it a worthy watch.
