2018, Telugu, Zee5, 7/10 IMDB, Directed by Rahul Sankrityan
A horror movie with a reincarnation saga, making a ghost THE hero and Vijay devaragonda it’s handsome chauffeur.
All the promo about Vijay venturing with a kid friendly movie, none of them revealed it’s going to be a true horror movie in first half.
Dramatic story line – youngster trying all odd jobs and ends up with easy money, a cab driver job, buying an old jinxed contessa for a whooping cheap price(?) Rs169000 with the money got from selling his sister-in-law’s jewel. They make it seem a fortune making business, driving back to back shifts. (all those engineers and doctors watch out and consider a change of career).
Vijay convincingly expresses and emotes impressively. The whole movie revolves around the ghost in the second half making Vijay just another supporting cast. One is reminded of the recent flick U-Turn and the old flick of thalaivar, padikadhvan, where his taxi ‘Lakshmi’, has a mind of its own in identifying bad passengers. Lack of strong bonding between the lead pair priyanka, is a let down as the focus is always on the ghost and not on the heroine or hero. The subtle comedy of his uncle and his apprentice ‘Hollywood’, did save the movie espiecally the second half.
The ghost played by the cuckoo girl, Malavika Nair in the flash back has a unique scientific backdrop sandwiched with melodrama, does stand out of the mundane flashbacks of the usual horror stories.
Music director wins with Maate Vinadhuga by Sid Sriram and Neeve Neeve by Shreya is another catchy number. Scary BGM at does mks you Jump on your seats.
Deliberately lengthy second half, does slows down the pace and the reincarnation of the ghost’s soul in the still born baby of Vijay’s brother does test one’s tolerance.
Overall, a one time watch, flick just for the cuteness of Vijay in expressing his fear of the ghost, his friendly patch up with the ghost and the big heart of letting the ghost become the hero of the movie.
