Thadam

2019, Tamil, Amazon Prime, 8.2/10 IMDB, Direced by Magizh Thirumeni

The turtle paced subtle thriller wins the race, all credit to flawless screenplay and precise story telling, face lifted by tangible casting.

Mazhil Thirumeni, is out with a dual role off-beat thriller screen play, in similar lines to his successful past ventures, ‘Thadayara Thakka’ and the recent ‘Megaman’. The director rightly teases you with the opening credits quoting, the story is based on true events.

Starts off slow and travels particularly with a ‘no-hurry’ mode, way up and till the mid of second half. The director takes ample time to explore the two characters and the life surrounding them. However it doesn’t bore you in anyway as the scenes are fresh and characters are inquisitively portrayed to make your expectation high for a twist anytime.

Arun Vijay has been blossoming off late and this is no doubt his recent benchmark for himself. Amongst the youngesters teaming up to show off their 6pack abs in kollywood, he is one loyal hero you wish he had a bigger break just after his Paandavar Boomi days. Never too late and he gives you every paise worth of acting. God bless the hard worker who rose everytime he fell.

The ‘Miss India material’ Tanya Hope shines through the very little yet pivotal space. The love track with two new dimensions were inspirations from GVM and Mani. Both storylines were worthy of spending valuable time in detailing as they turn crucial in the climax to justify the lag.

When the movie travels to the murder scene, you are not alerted with any drama to accompany it. It happens in the same pace the movie travelled so far. The story is in a trans, up and till the female inspector played by ‘Sivam’ fame Vidhya, unveils the crime incident and explores the suspect possibilities. That is when you sit up putting on the thinking cap and become a cop yourself.. Yogi babu was noteworthy so as the cops including George Mariyan and the other head constables who assist the Inspector.

It’s inevitable not to ignore the parade of similar genre movies Dhuruvangal 16, Thuparivaalan, Raatsasan line up to offer you clues to solve the mystery but the handling of the dual characters, was something clean and new.

There are introduction of characters to substantiate the investigations and they all compliment the main story. Sonia Aggarwal was a drag but then thats the backbone of the plot in the climax and you are convinced.

Music was average but sensible given the story’s genre and cinematography was classy to distiguish the the character’s backdrop. Editing was razor sharp not to give away any clues and to camaflouge them with scene overlapping each other to deviate the audience wisely.

Do not want to give away much to curb you from enjoying the subtle thriller as I subtly did.

Good watch.
