Thimiru Pudichavan

2018, Tamil, Sun Nxt, 5.3/10 IMDB, Directed by Ganeshaa

Admirable reformation story let down sadly by poor screenplay but saved surprisingly by the Kovai Sarala kind heroine character and expressionless style of Vijay Antony and Lord Muruga.

You walk out of the movie with TIMIRU, to the beats of Naga Naga song, as the hero is THIMIRUKE pudichavan, watch out not to walk straight into a Murugan Temple, instead of reaching home.

The movie is about reforming juvenile criminals who are trained in the hands of a local rowdy and sent all over India. With the minimal budget of Vijay Antony’s home production, you get to see 4 such boys one of whom is the hero police constable Vijay’s brother. He shoots his unruly brother and the task of reforming the other kids falls in his hands as he is promoted to inspector of that area.

Vijay Antony is slowly becoming boring especially when the heroine like Nivedha Pethuraj scores with her humour side of a corrupt police subordinate beside him. But there is something in those expressionless eyes of Vijay Antony and powerful dialogue delivery without moving a single muscle. He is Thimiruke Pudichavan and you like him too.

There are many preachy moments but they don’t feel awkwardly preachy. There are many instances you are laughing subtly and clapping weirdly. The direction is a let down as the scenes are not crisp enough and feels elastic. But again you don’t seem to hate it and you end up liking it even. The scene where the villan is jailed over and over for petty cases, (thanks to lord muruga’s flag rooster) and petty offenses, you find yourself enjoying the treatment.

These were the age old mass paced stories for Vijay and Rajini movies, but it’s uniquely low profiled for Vijay Antony and since the intention of the movie has genuinity, you seem to eventually forgive all mishaps. Every deed of the hero is backed with people centric well wishes, you kind of like the hero’s characterisation.

The Naga Naga song and the BGM Thimiru thaan pudichavan.. Thimiruke Pudichavan.., won’t stop lingering in your ears, making Vijay Antony, the music director win your hearts.

Love this man for the story selection that whenever I ask my parents if they want to go for Vijay Antony’s movies, they are giving a big thumbs up saying his movies never fails to deliver like those of Sashikumar’s.

Keep going Vijay Antony. You have your own space and market and fan followers. Your intentions are genuinely appreciated.
