2019, Tamil, Disney Hotstar, 6.7/10 IMDB, Directed by Siva
‘Viswasam’ saved by ajith fan’s viswasam, 2 nd half drama, Sid Sriram’s Kannana Kanne, Nayantara in Saree and Ajith’s broad biceps.
Ajith’s intro in dhoti and cloud like beard covered face, thunders the audience ears, nevertheless his sparkling eyes holds you sternly, the sparkle for which we bear him for all kinds of weird career choices and his motive behind his choice of directors..
Ajith’s 4th ‘V’ venture with director Shiva, for no reason makes you sulk for the actor’s unexplained trust. But this time we hoped the ‘V’ stands for victory with the huge positive being Nayantara on board.
First half with Ajith and Nayan combo’s flashback tries to capture you with eachother’s charm. Ajith with black hair and beard, coloured shirts, Theni accent, macho stunt, and ‘so-called’ comedy. Naya tries her bit with her spaghetti chudi top, catchy ear drops, pretty hairdo, stern faced intelligent doctor character, pretty natamai wife’s look after marriage with different style hairdo, jewel, handloom saree and mugappu chain for thaali.
But all in vain, as we are not connecting with the characters, one- because of the weak characterisations and impactless scenes, two- we inevitably see Ajith and Nayan on screen than the million times shouted out Thookku Durai and Niranjana character names. Director should have taken more meticulous prep on sketching the outline with bit more logic and depth.
The reason behind nayan’s daughter being abducted was the first twist in the screenplay. Nayan’s rival pharmaceutical owner, cute and fit Jagathy poses a threat to the hefty Ajith and unfortunately Jagapathi does pose a tuff competition to the hero with his looks as well.
The lengthy slow paced punch dialogues, a trademark of director Shiva, even though funnily lengthier this time, didn’t get on to your nerve surprisingly.
Ajith’s broaden look was mocked by comedian Vivek and all I could think of was Mudhal Mariyadhai Shivajiganesan, saying ’12 young girls can swing on his biceps’, here undoubtedly 24 young women could swing…
Anika, the lead pair’s daughter is promising with her acting abilities. Vivek, Robo Shankar and thambi rammayya tickles you.
The last scene where Anika calls Ajith as ‘Appa’, the peculiar reaction that comes through those hairy face of the actor reminds you why the actor is loved by his mind-blowing fans.
Imaan seriously needs a crash course from Anirudh for BGMs. His scores were average but was saved by Sid Sriram’s Kannana Kanne.
Yes, watchable for the Viswasam on Ajith and Nayan alone…
